Development Consultant
Laura Fowler
Laura is honoured and excited to be taking on the role of Development Coordinator
Having joined choirs at the Bromley Youth Music Trust at fourteen, Laura realised that singing was to be a huge part of her life at a young age. After singing with Sarah Harpham at BYMT, she continued her vocal studies with Rosalind Roberts at the University of Warwick, where she received a choral scholarship award in 2002 before achieving her Diploma in Singing Performance from the ABRSM. She is an Alumni of the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain (1996-2008) and has enjoyed opportunities to perform a varied range of repertoire as a soloist.
After she graduated with a BA honours degree in Classical Civilisation, she trained as a Primary School and Early Years teacher. Throughout her career in education, Laura held onto her passion for choral music, leading school and community children’s choirs and advocating for community outreach through music in her role as Music Coordinator.
Witnessing time and again the shining benefits that music-making has had on the mental health of the young people she has worked with, Laura is keen to share that she has also been hugely impacted by the support, community, friendships and health rewards that have come from choral singing in her adulthood. This has been particularly pertinent in the past three years as she has continued to sing while recovering from the chronic effects of Long Covid.
Being a founding member of Vox Anima Chamber Choir and member of Vox Populi, Laura has been an active supporter of Friends of the Vox from the outset, and is thrilled to be taking the reins from Hannah in order to help nurture and propel the charity to the great heights it is aiming for in the future.
Laura looks forward to the challenges that this change in her career will bring and is grateful for the opportunity to work with the charity, combining her experiences in choral singing and her passion for bringing energising music-making opportunities to all.
