An Inspiring Day of Song
On Saturday, November 2, music lovers gathered at St. Nicholas Church in Sevenoaks for our Friends of the Vox "Come and Sing" event, hosted by singers from the Vox Populi and Hurst Green Singers.
Over 100 singers, ranging from choral novices to seasoned voices, came together to bring Fauré's Requiem to life under the expert guidance of conductor and Friends of the Vox Artistic Advisor James Meaders and accompanist Richard Hammond-Hall. We were also delighted that we could be joined by Temple Church Chorister Freddie as our Pie Jesu soloist, and Jonathan Heron as our Baritone soloist.
As the day progressed, the choir dove into the finer details of Fauré's masterpiece, with Maestro focusing on unifying vowels, breathing techniques, phrasing, and exploring the emotional and spiritual essence of the piece. His guidance transformed the collective sound, allowing each singer to feel the depth of the work and to engage with it in a more profound way. The afternoon concluded with an informal performance of the Requiem to friends and family!
Thank you to all those who joined us for this event - we can’t wait until the next one.
