Fundraising Ramble

Thank you to Vox Anima Chamber Choir member Tracey Boulton for organising a fantastic fundraising event at the start of November which raised over £250 for Friends of the Vox.

Tracey tells us about the Autumn Ramble:

A group of us from Vox Populi, Vox Anima Chamber Choir, friends and two small dogs met at Linton church, Kent to have a short talk by Cathy Houchin, on some of the history of Linton including the fact that the game of cricket was born here (unbeknownst to me, owner of a miniature Schnauzer called ‘Cricket’)

After our history talk, a browse around the church and some hot beverages, we listened to  the church organ, played by the current organist, Marian Greensill, who sent us out with a spring in our step equaled by the stunning weather that day, affording us the privilege of seeing the beautiful weald of Kent along the Greensand Way with its far reaching views.

We made our way through apple and pear orchards to find ourselves in the grounds of the next church, St Peter’s Boughton Monchelsea. Bearing in mind it was the rutting season, we were graced with the  stunning countryside opening up before us and young bucks wrestling each other and entertaining us only a few feet away in the neighbouring deerpark. Luckily we were safely placed to view them without injury to anyone.

We also took a look inside the beautiful church building but specifically viewed the glorious sound and lighting sequence of the Millenium Window by the local artist Graham Clarke.  Linda Darling who is one of the parishioners at the church, gave us a talk and some insight into its inception regarding the making process involved and the sourcing of the materials, as well as other historical information on the church.

We then walked back and had a homemade soup lunch with, warm bread rolls, cakes and good company at our home in  Welldishes Oast.

Thank you to all those who supported this event.
