World Premiere: O Oriens by Anna Rocławska-Musiałczyk

We are delighted to share the this extraordinary piece, the winning composition from our Emerging Composers Call for Scores, recorded live at our Upper Voices Festival in St Peter’s Eaton Square by Vox Anima Chamber Choir, conducted by James Meaders, with piano accompaniment by Richard Hammond-Hall.

It was incredibly special to have composer, Anna Rocławska-Musiałczyk, present for the premiere, and to share in her excitement at hearing her work performed for the first time. The choir's performance captured the piece's profound depth and shimmering beauty, leaving a lasting impression on all in attendance.

We hope you enjoy listening to the live recording below!

Text & Translation
O Oriens, splendor lucis æternæ, et sol justitiæ
Veni et illumina sedentes in tenebris, et umbra mortis.

O Oriens splendour of eternal light, and Sun of justice!
Come and enlighten them that sit in darkness, and in the shadow of death.

About Emerging Composers
In January 2024, Friends of the Vox together with The Music of Dan Forrest launched a call for scores, which invited composers to submit a new work for treble voices. We received over 100 entries from across 19 countries! These were adjudicated by James Meaders and Dan Forrest. Anna’s piece, O Oriens, was the winning entry.

With thanks to Jonathan Heron & Simon Fowler for their video and sound recording expertise.
